i...can't...breathe...

Today, the one mentally-challenged girl at Nakajo Junior High came into the teacher's room to give me a handmade invitation to her birthday party. However, in the process she got sort of obsessed with me and gave me a rather strong, stifling bear hug. She opened her mouth and lunged for my face, but the teachers grabbed her head and stopped her just in time. So there was a rather odd moment this morning when time froze momentarily and two teachers were seen in gridlock between me and the girl, one teacher tugging at her arms and one holding her head back with both hands. She finally released. I said "Thanks for the card!" Everyone had a little bit of a laugh, and I didn't mind it, it was sweet that she gave me the invitation and even wrote my name in English. The only thing that bothered me was that she is a 12-year-old Japanese girl, and I was nearly crushed by her. So, off to the gym again tonight...

i have a kid like that at one of my shogakko's. he's about ten years old. whenever he sees me he always charges for me, 'justine sensei!' and (usually) tries to hug me really hard. however, the first time he did so i was standing at the front of the class and he got up out of his seat and ran up to me. first he wrapped his arms around my legs (really hard), then he reared up, stepped back, and hit me really hard!

ha ha justine. next time you'll have to use one of those cruel child restrainer poles that one of my schools has. Does your school have those?

And Jodi, not sure what the intention was, but I'm imagining that it was a kiss, though it may have been for a bite or a lick. I'm glad I didn't find out.

those restrainer things are hilarious! they remind me of people from the pound coming to take away a rabid dog. i thought they were for intruders though

I was under the impression that they were for restraining psycho kids with knives, after those teachers got killed in Osaka or wherever last year. I guess they can be used for lots of things. On my last day I'm totally gonna pin down my kocho sensei with it.

in my first year in japan there was a a special needs boy who adored me. he was also very big and strong. he would charge for me everytime he saw me and hug, kiss, lick me profusely! he just went mental everytime he saw me. at my very first sports day (i've been to 11 and counting) he charged for me when i was in the middle of the teacher's race and knocked me to the ground and then lay down on top of me! people were running from every angle to save me! they wanted to bring me to hospital because i was covered in bruises! seriously,i'm not joking! i do bruise easily though. in the end they had to lock him up on mondays when i visited the school. he'd look out the window all day waiting to catch a glimpse of me and then start jumpimg up and down and going crazy. thing is i liked the kid and felt they shouldn't be locking him up...

Poor kid! What's his name? You should start a "Free だれだれ" campaign.
