today

today is a peculiar, but blessed, day!

I was sitting at work after a so-so class. It's hard to motivate after the winter break, and the lull in teaching in early January. The sky is gray but it's not snowing, just getting warmer and causing avalanches here and there. Every once and a while the building shakes, and people jump around like it's another earthquake, but it's just a ton or two of snow sliding off the gym roof.

I was sitting at my desk trying to plan my day of making lessons/going skiing (couldn't go last night, had the most fruitless afternoon of being stuck in snow traffic trying to pick up Debs, and then after finally getting her, driving up towards Muikamachi to find that a big avalanche had blocked the road) when Aurora got on MSN and was like "hey, what's up, ladi-la, this and that" and at the end she was like "oh, your sister just had her baby! like 10 minutes ago!"

WOW! My sister had her baby! I don't know much yet, all I know is it's a girl and she's really fat, "gordita" as Ora put it.

On top of this, I'm just finding out that I'm cancelling my Olympics trip and my mom is coming here in 1 month for the snow festival for 11 days! Also my Aunt Susie is coming up for the snow festival weekend since she'll be in Tokyo and mom will be here then! Kewwwwlll!

Funny how a drab morning of rusty teaching and avalanche frustration can turn into a day of wonderful news and feelings of optimism and excitement, and feeling more connected to family happenings (the family's bigger now too!)

And there's cheese coming for me in the mail!
